Serpent Mask, low-fire glazed clay
I sculpt using low-fire clay, either red or white. I am particularly interested in masks and mythic creatures, such as the god of the wild, Pan, or ocean gods and goddesses, Poseidon and Thalassa. I also find myself drawn to Shakespearean characters and "The Elocution Lesson" imagines a very young Juliet being instructed by her nurse a few years before she meets Romeo.
My figurines are small, 8 to 9 inches tall. I either paint them using acrylic paints or glaze them and fire again. Sometimes I paint on top of the glaze, but of course the sculptures cannot go in the kiln again after applying paint.
